I received a private message this morning from the SINLetter forums that was very similar to the "nigerian scam" emails many of us have seen over the last couple of years. I also received an email from a subscriber notifying me that he had received the same private message.

It looks like the scammers are getting creative and used the SINLetter forums this morning to send private messages to the few members who had posted messages on the forums or had subscribed very recently. :( My estimate is that less than a dozen members would have received this email. I have tightened forum permissions to prevent this from happening again. I sincerely apologize to members who received this scam message.

Welcome to SINLetter Forums

Welcome and many thanks for visiting SINLetter forums.
When I launched Suria Investment Newsletter in August 2005, it was just a short email that was sent out to a few friends and family. Over the next few months, I launched a website to support the newsletter, a blog to post updates between newsletters and a model portfolio that automatically updates itself everyday so that subscribers can track the performance of individual stock picks as well as the entire portfolio. Trying to do this while juggling a full time job and other commitments has proved to be a very interesting experience.

Twenty two editions and over 1,000 subscribers later, I figured it would be a good idea to expand the scope of the website to make it a place where investors could interact with each other. Current SINLetter subscribers include retail investors with varying levels of experience, institutional investors, mutual fund managers, hedge fund managers ad well as Wall Street analysts. I hope that these forums will give all of us a platform to learn from each other and obtain new ideas beyond those I mention in the newsletters and blog.

Many stock forums are plagued with spam, stock touts and off-topic discussions. To overcome these problems, only SINLetter subscribers will have access to these forums. Subscribers who had confirmed their subscription before the launch of these forums will be "grandfathered" in and will have access immediately but new subscribers will only have access one month after their confirmation date. This will hopefully get rid of most stock touts and paid pumpers and I look forward to your cooperation in making these forums a source of quality information.

Don't forget to introduce yourself in the new member introductions forum and please post your suggestions as a response to this topic.

Regards,

Asif Suria

Editor

SINLetter.com
